Newcastles silverchair, originally spelt in lower case and later with a more conventional capital S, were one of the most highly feted Australian rock bands of the mid-90s, their stunning debut single Tomorrow and the album Frogstomp captured the zeitgeist of the global rise of grunge music, an alternative rock genre that had emerged during the mid-1980s in and around Seattle, in the US state of Washington.
